Although it is missed in Windows 8, the Start menu still has its flaws. Finding a particular item, without the search function, can be quite difficult. You would have to navigate through a deep folders structure to reach an application's executable. This is where Super Win Menu comes in. It places everything in the Start menu right in front of you, on an easy-to-access menu. Instead of searching or looking through folders, you can locate the executables or documents without too many clicks.

The application is free to try for a limited period of time. The trial version doesn't have any functionality restrictions, but it will display a nag screen. Super Win Menu was developed for Windows XP, Vista and Win 7, but it is known to work on Windows 8 as well. It can be installed in a few moments and you don't have to meet any special requirements.

When launched, Super Win Menu will display a small icon in the upper left corner of the screen. Hovering with the mouse cursor over this icon or clicking it will display a large menu, with your running, most used and last used programs, as well as your recently opened documents. You may click a series of icons, on the left side of the menu, to hide or reveal the recent documents and to show everything in the Start menu.

Other icons can be selected, to filter out applications, help files and miscellaneous items. You can also find a few icons, on the right side of the menu, for launching Windows Explorer, the control panel, printers manager, the Windows Task Manager and the Run dialog. An option for powering down the computer can be found as well.

The menu itself has a modern design and it can be customized on a general settings panel. Besides making a few tweaks to Super Win Menu's behavior, you can choose other colors for the menu, with different saturation and lightness levels. It is also possible to add a background picture, change the menu's transparency level and to make it wider or narrower. All settings can be previewed in real time, on the same configurations panel. If you don't want to make all these settings, you can choose one of many presets from a drop menu.

Pros

The application allows you to access your Start menu items faster and easier. It displays everything from currently running programs to recently opened documents. Also, Super Win Menu places a few filtering options at your disposal, so you can find a particular item faster.

Cons

The trial version's nag screen shows up quite often and it makes you wait for five seconds. Due to Super Win Menu's efficient design and straightforward functionality, you may not want to return to the classic Start menu.
